Your mission will be to act as a consultant and a hands-on project lead for medium to large-scale infrastructure solutions for our clients. To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have extensive experience with deploying best practice-based infrastructures with VMware (ESX, VI, vSphere) Quick question for you - click here as well as working familiarity with storage and networking/routing & switching. You also will need virtualization experience with Microsoft Server 2008/2003 and Exchange 2007/2003. In addition, you will need outstanding interpersonal and customer service abilities as well as logical troubleshooting skills.

VLSystems, founded in Irvine, CA in 1978, is a Cisco Premier Certified Partner with a Master Security Specialization and a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner specializing in secure information solutions involving Cisco LAN/WAN, data center and security, Microsoft advanced infrastructure, SharePoint Portal Server, workflow and collaboration, and managed services.

What Else You'll Bring to the Table

In addition to the qualifications detailed above, you'll need:
  • A degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or an equivalent combination of education and relevant field experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of high performance computing systems, infrastructure virtualization, network security, storage area networks, and data protection. Quick question for you - click here
  • Experience as a pre-sales engineer.
  • Working knowledge with file and volume management, clustering and replication, backup and recovery solutions, high availability, performance and tuning, etc.
  • Solid understanding of networking technologies such as protocols, routing, QOS, NIC and HBA.
  • Experience with monitoring, alerting and management systems such as Microsoft's Systems Center Operations Manager or Configuration Manager.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and balance multiple projects at once.
  • A demonstrated ability to learn and utilize new technologies and processes quickly.
The ideal candidate will also have:
  • Experience with Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI).
  • Experience working within data center environments of mid-sized organizations.
  • Fundamental knowledge of network principles and designs as they relate to virtual infrastructures.
  • Fundamental understanding of host based (i.e. Windows, ESX) hardening and security best practices within a physical and virtual datacenter.
Preferred but not required:
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or VMware Certified Technical Sales Professional (VTSP).
  • Microsoft MCSE (2000 or greater) certification.
  • Additional certifications in Cisco, Microsoft, VMware or CISSP.
  • Consulting background/experience.
You also will need to be willing and able to spend 60% to 80% of your time in the field, primarily in Orange County, north San Diego County, South Los Angeles County, and Riverside. On rare occasions you may travel overnight.

More About Your Role

If you're a good fit for this position, you already know most of what this job entails. However, to be sure we're providing a complete picture, here are some details.

Reporting to the CTO, you will lead the design, implementation, support and documentation of mission critical business systems and network infrastructures. Projects will vary from one day to one year, but they typically involve 80 to 100 hours; at any given time you'll be contributing to multiple projects. Many projects will incorporate our pre-defined architecture for virtualized environment involving VMware.

More specifically, your activities will include:
  • Deploying, migrating, and documenting post-sales engagements with customers based on VLSystems best practices. Quick question for you - click here
  • Assisting in the delivery of support and services to customers as needed.
  • Participating in the design, implementation and administration of Windows Servers and related infrastructures.
  • Troubleshooting high-end issues with systems, networking and virtual infrastructures.
  • Conducting architecture chalk talks and design concepts.
  • Assisting the sales team with pre-sales and post-sales opportunities.
  • Facilitating and conducting product demonstrations, webinars and presentations to customers.
  • Assisting the sales team with requests for bids/proposals and creating statements of work for proposals and installations.
  • Creating bills of materials and Visio diagrams for proposals of solutions.

To excel in this role you will have need the technical expertise, to be sure, but you also will have strong customer facing skills, including the ability to truly listen and understand their issues and goals. You also will present technical information to non-technical people so that it makes sense in their context. In addition, you'll have a down-to-earth approach; you won't find big egos at VLSystems.
